Ted talks on the topic social media

Take a look at these two Ted Talks. Comment on them with your thoughts about social media.

Do you think that the internet has made your life better?

Do you think that it has made your social connections stronger or has it made you feel more alone?

Do you agree with this quote: “I’ll tell you what’s wrong with having a conversation. It takes place in real time and you can’t control what you’re going to say.”

What do you think of this quote: “ those little devices in our pockets, are so psychologically powerful that they don’t only change what we do, they change who we are.”

What about you? Can you walk away from your phone for an hour?

I think that social media is far to important for kids and teens.
I don't think that socialmedia makes my life better I just think that I replaces what i els wise would do
I dont think that it is a god thing that you can control what you are going to say becaus in a text you might erase what you would have said and replace it with something else
Yes I can walk away from my fone in a hour, some times on vacation I don't use it for a few day

I kind of understand her but at the same time I kind disagree. She wants to like change everything back to the old days and you just can't do that. The humanity will always evolve and you can't stop that. We will always find ways to make things faster and better.

1. No. But there's a lot of fun things you can do on the internet. So... I guess yes and no?
2. I don't really know. But it's really good when you want to connect with friends or family far away.
3. No. I don't agree. If we all just lived by that quote we would end up not talking at all and only connecting by internet and stuff like that. If I write something sarcastic to someone they can easily think I'm not sarcastic. But if it's in real life they can see that I don't mean it.
4. I guess that's true...?
5. Sure. That wouldn't be a problem.

I think social can be fun, but some people use social medias too much, like all the time.
I don't know if the Internet has made my life better, but it has differently made it easier.
Its fun being connected with your friends but yes, it can be a little lonely sometimes, cause you are always physically alone.
I agree with both quotes. They sound true in my ears. We feel so weak without our phone.
And yes, I could go away from my phone for an hour. I've done it a couple of times^_^

I feel like kids would rather play on their phone or iPad then go outside and play. And if they have a play date they will just sit and watch tv or play on their devices and not be outside and play. I think that a big part of your childhood is to play and be creative, and fantasies that you are in a dream world but the electronic devices take that away. But I also feel that a phone is a must E.G. If you are in a dangerous situation or just need help you can call somebody. I feel that I could easel walk away from my phone but I wouldn't do it

1 - Well 50/50, It has made my life easier in the way that I can stay connected when some of my friends move far away.
BUT I most admit that I spend way to much time on Snapchat.

2 - I think it has made some of my connections stronger because it would be pretty hard to stay connected with friends who live more than 100km away, hell even 50km would be hard..

3 - Well, its true, most people would rather text about something than actually talking about it... I personally like talking about things the most.

4 - Again, its true...

5 - Yes, I could.

Technology can be useful, but forcing ourselves to be media social because of our own image in real life friend and family are just dangerous. For every human on this planet I hope we all experience technology, but makes at social media cut. It can be useful and all, but technology is our only way forward right now, you can't stop the Internet, you can't make it better just by doing a speech, all need the same effect from social media to see their future, it drags our life's down, and we forget our opportunities for doing something big!

It's your life, it's our choices, it's your future, IT'S YOUR DESTINY!

Do you agree or disagree with the points 1-4: 1.     It’s rude not to put down your phone when in conversations with others Imagine you’re talking with someone and  in the middle of it they start to talk to someone else. That’s kind of a “are you kidding me?” moment. 2.     Put down your phone - It raises the quality of your conversations Just by being there our phone has the potential to distract us from our in-person conversations.” 3.       Your Phone is a distraction  A single phone notification can spoil your ability to focus on a specific task or conversation. 4.     It helps you be more empathetic* Sherry Turkle, (from the TED Talk), writes that texting or not paying attention create disengaged* conversations that lead to a lack of empathy. “ Face-to-face conversation is the most human and humanizing thing we do,” writes Turkle. “It’s where we develop the capac...
